Pakistan latest news: A three-judge bench led by Lahore High Court Judge Ali Bakr Najafi gave a unanimous verdict in favour of bail for 69-year-old Shehbaz. Shehbaz is the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Lahore. A Pakistani court on Thursday granted bail to leader of opposition and PMAY-N chief Shehbaz Sharif (PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif) on charges of money laundering and disproportionate assets. A three-judge bench headed by Lahore High Court Judge Ali Bakr Najafi gave a unanimous verdict in favour of the bail of 69-year-old Shehbaz. Shehbaz is the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
May be released from jail on Friday
A three-judge bench granted bail to Shehbaz on two private bond of 50-50 lakh Pakistani rupees who are expected to be released from jail on Friday. Shehbaz was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in September 2020 on charges of money laundering and disproportionate assets.
Sharif has served as Punjab CM
Recently, the Pakistan government has registered a seven billion rupee sadhana case against leader of opposition Shahbaz Sharif and his family. Shahbaz, 69, was the Chief Minister of Punjab between 2008 and 2018. Prime Minister Imran Khan's advisor for home and accountability affairs Shahzad Akbar has said that the Financial Monitoring Unit (NAB) had detected 177 suspicious transactions of Shahbaz's family after which NAB launched an investigation
