Islamabad

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday expressed his support to Indians and expressed his sympathy for the affected families in view of the sharp rise in covid-19 cases in India. Qureshi said the Covid-19 crisis reminds us that there is a need to move beyond politics on humanitarian issues.

"In the light of the current wave of Covid-19 infection, which has wreaked havoc in our region, we express our support to the people of India. On behalf of the people of Pakistan, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the families affected in India. He said Pakistan is working closely with SAARC countries to cooperate to tackle the epidemic.

According to Saturday's data of the Union Health Ministry (India), the number of infected people in India has gone up to 1,66,10,481 as per Saturday's data of corona virus, while 25 lakh patients are currently undergoing treatment. With the death of 2624 patients, 1,89,544 people have lost their lives in India so far due to this infection.

According to Pakistan's Health Ministry, 157 patients lost their lives in the country in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 5908 new cases of this epidemic were reported in Pakistan. Qureshi's tweet comes at a time when relations between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue are improving. Pakistan was angered by the Indian government's decision to withdraw the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 and sent it back to the Indian High Commissioner, reducing diplomatic ties with India. Pakistan had terminated all air and road links with India and suspended trade and rail services.
